Jacqueline Monterroso is the first Latina to serve on the Revere School Committee, in a school district with over 70% students of color and over 60% Latino/Hispanic students, and the first Latina to ever hold elected office in Revere. Jacqueline is the proud daughter of hardworking immigrants, a former educator, and current education policy specialist excited to earn your vote and continue serving as your school committee member.

Jacqueline was born the eldest of two to working class Mexican immigrants: her father immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 and worked as a farmworker for many years before transferring to a manufacturing company and her mother immigrated to the country at the age of 16 to work in food packing factories and now as a custodian. It was through her parents’ stories and values that Jacqueline learned the meaning of humility, resiliency, and perseverance.

The first in her family to graduate high school and attend college, Jacqueline received a Bachelor’s Degree in international relations and political science from the University of Florida and a Master’s Degree in Education and Social Change from the University of Miami. Jacqueline began her career as a kindergarten teacher and now works as an education policy specialist at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

In addition to working for the state Department of Education and serving as your school committee member, Jacqueline also serves as a mentor to high school students across the nation, as board member for Wondermore, a literacy nonprofit in Boston, and as advisory council member to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.

Jacqueline believes Revere deserves a committee member with teaching experience, with experienced knowledge and leadership in education policy at a local and state level, and with a commitment to celebrate the diverse identities, perspectives, and strengths in Revere schools; all attributes she brings to the table. Jacqueline has pledged her career to this work and hopes to count on your vote and support come this Election Day.
